The Bretter family arrived in the United States earlyl this year and have been helped to integrate themselves in the American way of life by the New York Association for New Americans, a constituent agency of the United Jewish Appeal. Chanukah, of the Festival of lights, celebrates the rededication of the Temple by the victorious Maccabees (167 B.C.E.) in their struggle against the Syrian King Antiochus who had attempted to suppress Judiasm."
