Charles (foreground in hat) is pictured with his parents, Charles and Helene (back right), and two unknown relatives, in Coney Island. Tintype studios were big business in Coney Island in the late 19th century through the early 20th century, and many trips to the beach included a souvenir photograph. The studios were either set up in tents or in storefronts. Some included elaborate backdrops and props. In this photograph, you can see a bit of the backdrop hanging from the ceiling beams. It
